Custom Bathroom Remodeling with Tile, Plumbing, and GROHE Shower System in Seattle, WA

Scope of work

A fully customized bathroom renovation in Seattle featuring updated framing, slab plumbing, GROHE shower system, tile installation, and waterproofing.

This Seattle bathroom remodeling project was a complete transformation focused on expanding space, improving layout, and upgrading finishes for long-term performance. The homeowners wanted a functional and visually clean design, complete with modern fixtures and durable waterproofing systems to handle everyday use with ease.

The renovation began with permits and architectural planning. All required building, electrical, and plumbing permits were obtained by the homeowner, while the contractor coordinated inspections to maintain Seattle code compliance throughout the project. The contractor reviewed all provided architectural drawings to ensure correct elevations, layouts, and utility placements. Any code violations identified during site inspection were addressed and corrected before construction began.

Framing included enclosing an existing closet to expand the bathroom footprint and adding a new pony wall at the shower area. Blocking was installed for all wall-mounted accessories, including the vanity, mirror, and shower glass. Drywall was hung and finished to a smooth, paint-ready surface. A paint-grade hollow-core door, trim, and flooring transition pieces were also installed to finish the new layout.

The plumbing scope included cutting into the concrete slab to reroute water supply and sewer lines for the new vanity, toilet, and shower locations. A recessed subfloor was created to accommodate a dry-pack shower pan, and all new lines were pressure-tested for integrity. The homeowner-selected GROHE shower system was roughed-in and supported with proper alignment for long-term performance.

During fixture installation, the contractor mounted the wall-hung vanity, vessel sink, toilet, mirror/medicine cabinet, and grab bars. All plumbing connections and supports were tested and verified for leak-free functionality.

Electrical upgrades brought the space up to code and increased convenience. Two GFCI outlets were added near the vanity, along with a dedicated circuit for a lighted mirror. An additional GFCI outlet was prepped for a future bidet installation. All lighting, including owner-supplied LED fixtures, was installed and tested.

Protective coverings, dust containment barriers, and HVAC vent seals were used to keep the surrounding home clean during construction. Utilities were safely shut off during demolition, which included removal of all existing tile, flooring, drywall, and plumbing fixtures.

To protect the new surfaces, cement board was installed on shower walls and the pony wall. A full waterproofing system was applied using RedGard (or equivalent), covering the shower surround, shower pan, and curb. A dry-pack recessed shower pan was built with proper slope to a 32-inch stainless steel linear drain provided by the homeowner.

Tile installation included 3×12-inch wall tiles on the shower surround, a tile base along the bathroom perimeter, and floor tiles laid over a leveled concrete subfloor with slab-appropriate thin-set. A recessed 24×16-inch soap niche was built into the shower wall. All tile surfaces were grouted, sealed, and cleaned for a finished look and reliable performance.

To complete the remodel, the walls and ceilings were primed and painted using mildew-resistant paint. Doors and trim were also painted and touched up after final fixture installation.

The project concluded with a full professional cleaning. All debris, dust protection, and coverings were removed, and all surfaces, mirrors, and fixtures were polished. A final walkthrough was conducted with the homeowner to confirm satisfaction and offer maintenance recommendations.

This bathroom remodel in Seattle, WA reflects thoughtful planning, expert craftsmanship, and durable material choices. With its expanded layout, modern GROHE shower system, efficient plumbing and electrical upgrades, and beautiful tile finishes, the space now offers a functional and stylish retreat built to last.
