Puget Sound Energy (PSE) rewards energy-efficient home remodels. This aligns with Seattle’s push for a greener, more sustainable city. There’s more to taking advantage of these incentives than financial relief; you are future-proofing your home against rising utility costs while reducing your carbon footprint.

That all said, let’s talk about PSE rebate programs for home remodeling projects, from home electric vehicle (EV) maintenance to choosing energy-efficient appliances.

Seattle Homeowners’ Guide to PSE Rebate Programs For Home Remodeling

For your next home remodel, consider energy-efficient upgrades and home EV infrastructure. PSE loves green and sustainable remodels, and they’re happy to incentivize them. To be more specific, they offer the following rebate programs for home remodeling:

Appliance Rebates

PSE offers rebates on the purchase of energy-efficient dryers and washers to qualified customers. To be eligible for the rebate, one must be a PSE customer. After you make your purchase, you will need to submit an application via an online form.

The rebate is higher for customers within an income range that qualifies them for PSE’s Efficiency Boost program. For appliances bought between April 1, 2026, and May 31, 2026, a $50 additional rebate applies.

Here are the qualifying appliances and their corresponding rebates:

Electric Vehicle Home Charger Rebate

Seattle is fast-tracking EV adoption, and to support this initiative, PSE offers rebates for home EV chargers. The charger must be an ENERGY STAR® Smart Level 2 charger prequalified by PSE. It must be purchased after January 1, 2024, installed within PSE’s electrical service area, and owned by a PSE customer who owns an EV.

You need to go online and fill out the application form to get a rebate after purchasing and installing your charger. You will get up to $300 for a qualified charger. Homeowners with a household income eligible for Empower Mobility incentives can get up to $600 for the charger and up to $2,000 for the installation.

Flex EV

Opting in to the Flex EV program gets you a rebate whenever you adjust your EV charger’s output on Flex events, or days when energy demand peaks. You will receive a $50 rebate upfront after enrolling in the program, plus $0.50 per kilowatt-hour of power saved during Flex events. This is only available for homeowners with Level 2 chargers and operating qualified EVs.

Flex Rewards

Enrolling in Flex Rewards earns you a rebate when you turn off large appliances during Flex events. You will get $25 upon signing up, plus $15 for every year you are enrolled. You will also get a $1 rebate for every kilowatt-hour of electricity you save during Flex. PSE customers with AMI meters are eligible for this program.

Flex Smart

Flex Smart is for qualified PSE customers who own WiFi-enabled thermostats. You will need to register your device to enroll in the program, and PSE will adjust its temperature settings during Flex events. Eligible homeowners will get $50 upon enrolling their smart thermostat, plus $40 for each year of their stay in the program. For line-voltage thermostats, the rebate is $20 upfront plus $10 for every year that you are enrolled in the program.

Heating Rebates

When you upgrade your outdated heating to a more energy-efficient system, you qualify for a heating rebate. PSE offers this as instant discounts upon purchasing qualified equipment, making the transaction less taxing on your wallet. Below are the qualified systems and their respective rebates:

Switching from gas to electric heating also qualifies you for a $4,000 rebate. This requires the services of a licensed contractor, as this necessitates a complete overhaul of your home heating system.

Weatherization Rebates

Weatherization seals your home to prevent the loss of cool or warm air. It not only maximizes comfort and helps you save money, but also makes you eligible for a rebate. PSE requires you to hire a PSE Recommended Energy Professional (REP) contractor or a PSE Trade Ally to qualify. Here are the weatherization types that qualify you for a rebate, and how much you’ll be getting for each:

A smart thermostat combines WiFi connectivity, automation, remote access, and data to manage your home’s temperature efficiently. Buying one gets you a $75 rebate or $175 if you qualify for the Efficiency Boost program. You may purchase the device anywhere and apply for the rebate right after, or you can buy from the PSE marketplace and get the rebate as an instant discount.

Water Heating Rebates

You can get a rebate from PSE if you upgrade an outdated water heating system to any qualified high-efficiency heater. For Tier 3 and 4 water heaters, you can get $1,000 back, or $1,100 under the Efficiency Boost program. You can claim this rebate upon purchase from a participating retailer or via the online rebate form.

Windows Rebate

Do you have standard prime windows? Upgrading these to energy-efficient designs makes you eligible for a PSE rebate of up to $100 or $200 under Efficiency Boost. High-efficiency windows can keep cold air inside the house during Seattle’s hot summers, and keep the space warm during winter, helping you save on utility bills.

FAQs

What is the PSE Efficiency Boost program?

The Efficiency Boost program is designed for low-income households. Eligibility for the program is determined by the county rules and household size. In Seattle and King County as a whole, the latter is the only determining factor for Efficiency Boost qualification.

How long do I have to submit my PSE rebate application?

For most programs, you will need to fill out the necessary forms and submit any required documentation within 60 days since you have installed your energy-efficient upgrade.

Who is eligible for the heat pump rebate in Washington?

Qualified, current PSE customers could get a rebate for a heat pump upgrade. Eligibility is strictly determined by the current heating system and the contractor chosen. Homeowners who currently use electric resistance, gas, or old heat pumps are qualified for a rebate. A PSE Trade Ally Network or a Recommended Energy Professional (REP) must be contracted for the installation.
